How it all started
Dyslexia always conjures up the perception of a disability, slowness in
learning, inability to read or spell well, word and letter reversal,
just about anything to do with learning.
Well, true, it does affect
learning in many ways, probably because it gets in the way of learning
in a conventional manner, but this in turn leads in some instances to
brilliance. Just thinking of some of the famous dyslexics Albert
Einstein (who would not talk until he was 3 years old), Leonardo da
Vinci (who was left handed), Henry Ford, Nelson Rockerfeller, Walt
Disney, Jackie Stewart, to name a few, proves that it is a gift of
looking at the world in a different light.
Ronald D Davis
writes that "the mental function that causes dyslexia is a fit in the
truest sense of the word: a natural ability, a talent. It is something
special that enhances the individual” (The Gift of Dyslexia, 1994)
Dyslexics have a perceptual talent that has become so ingrained in
their make up that it becomes part and parcel of the way they look at
